Arvind Kejriwal is latest non-BJP leader on Centre’s radar

The CBI also recently examined BSP supremo Mayawati.

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is not the only chief minister complaining of being targeted by the CBI, other Opposition leaders and CMs it is investigating include Himachal Pradesh’s Virbhadra Singh and West Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee.

Soon after it registered a case against the Himachal CM, his wife and associates for allegedly amassing assets of over Rs 6 crore disproportionate to their known sources of income, the CBI on Tuesday conducted searches at the office of Delhi CM and a dozen other places after filing a corruption case against his principal secretary Rajendra Kumar. The CBI also recently examined BSP supremo Mayawati over its probe into the implementation of the National Rural Health Mission scam.

Opposition leaders said it was “unprecedented” that under the pretext of investigating charges against a bureaucrat, a CM’s office should be sealed and files searched. “The CBI action against Mr Kejriwal and the Himachal CM is highly condemnable and smacks of a politically motivated act. Today’s raid at the office of Delhi CM is a new low in the Modi government’s encroachment on the rights and dignity of non-BJP elected governments”, said a senior Opposition leader.

As the Opposition attacked the Centre, the CBI went on an overdrive to convey that the raids were being undertaken after following due a process of law, that included getting a search warrant from the competent court.
