Police raids financiers all over AP, many arrested
In Vijayawada alone 57 persons were taken into custody.
Vijayawada/Guntur/Rajhmundry/Anantapur: With Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, peeved with the negligence of intelligence officials in failing to sense the call money racket in AP, the police on Tuesday raided the houses and offices of unauthorized private financiers across the state. Several private financiers were arrested in some districts.
Promissory notes, record books, blank cheques, stamp papers, mortgaged property documents and other documents were seized from the financiers.
In Vijayawada alone 57 persons were taken into custody after raiding 92 places in the commissionerate limits. About Rs 14.20 lakh, 938 promissory notes, 193 blank cheques, 8 stamp papers and 310 property and other documents were seized in the city. The promissory notes amount to over Rs 30 lakh.
Police said that financiers who are charging exorbitant interests, wrong possession of property documents andthreatening borrowers would be arrested. In Guntur, police arrested four financers for harassing borrowers. Police said that Rs 2.85 lakh, documents and promissory notes were seized from the four accused. Guntur urban SP Tripathi said that police conducted checks in the offices of financiers in Guntur city. He said G. Venkata Kesava Rao of Lalapeta, Udumula Venkateswara Reddy of RTC colony; Diddukuri Ramesh of Brodipeta and S. Srinivasa Rao were arrested in the raids.
He added that the police department is receiving complaints about harassment from private financiers for payment of daily interest, which is illegal. He said G. Venkata Kesava Rao of Lalapeta, Udumula Venkateswara Reddy of RTC colony; Diddukuri Ramesh of Brodipeta and S. Srinivasa Rao of Sarada Colony were arrested in the raids.
East Godavari police have carried out raids on private financiers located in parts of Anaparthy, Ramachandrapuram and other areas on Tuesday. Ramachandrapuram DSP, B. Ravindranath said that they booked seven cases and nabbed three persons and seized several empty signed promissory notes, cheques and related documents during the drive.
Kadapa police detained 12 money lenders and seized 630 promissory notes worth Rs 2.69 crore in Rajampet, Pulivendula and Proddutur in Kadapa district. Police teams also seized Rs 18 lakh in cash, gold and silver ornaments during massive raids in Kadapa district on Monday. Police teams also seized pattadar passbooks, house and property documents of victims. Kadapa ASP Vijaykumar said raids would continue in all parts of the district. He asked victims to approach the police.
In Anantapur, a teacher couple lodged a complaint with two town police against an AR constable K.Sudhakar for threatening them in connection with a hand loan. The teacher Nagaraju rued that he took Rs 2 lakh from Sudhakar in 2009 as hand loan and paid about Rs 5 lakh as interest so far. The victims approached Anantapur SP.
