Hyderabad based all women startup to compete for global funds
Hyderabad: Giving an impetus to women’s participation in the start-up ecosystem, a city-based all women start-up has been chosen to compete globally for a global start-up competition. Developed by Shivani Gupta and Anuradha Pal, students of BITS Pilani, their device, Right Biotic, reduces the time taken to determine antibiotic sensitivity of bacterial pathogens found in human urine in case of urinary tract infections (UTI).
The device reduces testing time to just 4 hours from 72 hours taken through conventional means. The innovators will now compete globally at the ‘TiE International start up competition’s 2015-15 in which innovators from 20 cities globally will be participating.
The winner will be given $1.5 million as prize money. The students emerged winners of the Hyderabad chapter competitions . The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Hyderabad president Safir Adeni said, “On an average, Indian cities have sent the highest number of applications, indicating its growing pro-start-up culture.”
While cities abroad sent 50 to 70 applications on an average, Indian cities stood at 100 plus applications from each city. A total of nine Indian cities are participating in this event and the next round will be conducted in New Delhi on February 5. The finale will happen in the US.
