Hyderabad: Hosts Hyderabad continued their harrowing run in the Vijay Hazare one-day cricket tournament, suffering a 102-run defeat against Rajasthan here on Monday. Electing to field first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad managed to restrict Rajasthan to 250 for 8 in their 50 overs.

Ashok Menaria top-scored for Rajasthan with 55 runs and received solid support from M.N. Singh (51) and R.P. Yadav, who scored 47 runs. For the hosts, Ravi Kiran was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 57.

However, one torrid chase later, Hyderabad were bundled out for just 148 runs. Captain G.H. Vihari tried his best with 39, but none of his teammates showed up to this particular party.

T.M. ul Haq shone with the ball for Rajasthan, picking 4 for 44. In other matches, Punjab survived an Assam onslaught by a thrilling one run while Tamil Nadu thrashed Services by seven wickets.

At the Gymkhana Grounds, Mandeep Singh scored a rollicking 97-ball unbeaten 117 (12 fours, three sixes) as Punjab posted 327 for the loss of four wickets in 50 overs. However, Punjab almost came undone in the face of Sarupam Purkayastha’s brilliant 125 — off 112 deliveries and comprising 18 fours and one six. Amit Verma chipped in with 71 and Gokul Sharma contributed 60.

Abu Nechim Ahmed (1 from five balls) played four dot balls in the final over as Assam’s chase ended at 326 for 8, an agonising one run short. Meanwhile, at the Railways ground, an allround effort helped Tamil Nadu defeat Services comprehensively in a low-scoring encounter.

Asked to bat, Services only managed 192 for 8 in 50 overs. M. Mohammed was the wrecker-in-chief for TN with 5 for 50. In reply, Abhinav Mukund smashed 85 and Baba Aparajith made 66 not out as TN crossed the line in the 40th over with seven wickets in hand. For Services, D.G. Pathania picked 3/41.
