Tahsildar in graft case surrenders
Hyderabad: Tahsildar Sandhya Rani, who went absconding on December 10, surrendered before ACB court on Monday. The court remanded her till December 28 and she was taken to Chanchal-guda women’s prison.
She went absconding after ACB officials caught her brother Nageshwar Rao while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh on her behalf. Sandhya Rani denied that she demanded the bribe and blamed the land mafia for getting her trapped in the ACB net.
ACB said that Sandhya Rani allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh as bribe from builder Md Asad Ahmed saying that the land on which he was constructing a building belonged to the government. She threatened to issue notices to him if he did not stop construction.
Although Ahmed showed all original documents she rejected them citing town survey land records and said the land belonged to the government. Later, she allegedly demanded '10 lakh as bribe and the deal was settled at Rs 7 lakh.
On Thursday while he was giving the money to her brother Nageshwar Rao in the Punjagutta area, ACB officials trapped him. After coming to know about her brother’s arrest Sandhya Rani went absconding.
“I was trapped as I was very strict with the land mafia. The truth will come out during investigation of the case,” added Sandhya Rani.
