Sushma Swaraj bases talks with Pakistan on trust
New Delhi: Denying any “flip flop” by the government in its policy towards Pakistan, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj told Parliament on Monday that New Delhi had resumed talks with Islamabad on “trust”.
She said “uninterruptable dialogue is the only way out to resolve all bilateral issues”, and stressed that Jammu and Kashmir figured in the joint statement after talks between the two national security advisers in Bangkok because the state suffered the most due to border skirmishes and infiltration.
Ms Swaraj briefly tried to allay apprehensions of MPs after Deputy Speaker M. Thambidurai made an exception to allow members to seek clarifications after she made a statement on her visit to Pakistan.
She justified the move for a “comprehensive dialogue” with Pakistan, reasoning that “there is a need to bridge the gulf with the neighbouring country for peace and stability”.
