Karayogam blames Kochi Corporation for meal scheme delay

Governor to open organization’s Navathi fest on Dec 21.

KOCHI: Ernakulam Karayogam Secretary P Ramachandran said here on Monday that the Karayogam's move to provide noon meal to 1000 destitute every day remained a dream due to lack of co-operation from the Kochi Corporation.

He said this while speaking at a press conference to elaborate on the programmes conceived by the Karayogam as part of its Navathi (90th anniversary). Ramachandran said that the Corporation Council is yet to fulfill its promise to allow space for the same, even after giving the go-ahead for the project.

"The new council seems to be following in the footsteps of the earlier council which had promised to allow space for this project. Even though the manifestoes of both the LDF and UDF promised such a measure, it is surprising that our project remains a dream," he said.

He said that the Ernakulam Karayogam Navathi celebrations will be held for four days after starting on December 21. Governor P Sathasivam will inaugurate the celebrations on December 21.

It will have various programmes including Kathakali, Kalamezhuthu, Mohiniyattom and mural exhibition, seminars on job culture, recent cultural scenario and various competitions for children.

Ramachandran said that the welfare projects already initiated by the Karayogam for poor and ailing people will continue. As part of the Navathi celebrations a guest house and auditorium will be built in Guruvayoor and a polyclinic and a general medicine outlet will be built in Ernakulam.
