Hurriyat leaders meet Pakistani envoy
New Delhi: Drawing the positive out of the talks, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj said the issue of terrorism would now be addressed in a more focused way by the two NSAs.
“The fact that the NSAs of India and Pakistan met in Bangkok without any publicity does not mean any third country’s involvement but it was only to take forward the Ufa process as such a meeting could not take place in Delhi as you all know,” she said, clarifying on the concern raised by Trinamool MP Saugata Roy on why the two NSAs met in a third country. She made an identical statement in Rajya Sabha.
“Nothing has changed on the ground. Because we had said terror and talks cannot go together. So at Ufa, we said the NSAs will talk on terrorism,” Ms Swaraj said, adding “whenever talks happen, that is based on trust”.
Meanwhile, two hardliner Hurriyat Conference leaders on Monday met Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit in Delhi to discuss the recent visit of Ms Swaraj to Islamabad where she met Pakistan's top leadership.
“A Hurriyat delegation sent by chairman Syed Ali Geelani held a detailed meeting for one-and-a-half hours with Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit in New Delhi. The delegation also apprised the Pakistan High Commissioner about the present situation in Kashmir.
