Hema Upadhaya murder: Key suspect held
Lucknow: The UP Special Task Force (STF), on Monday, arrested Sadhu Rajbhar, the key suspect in the Mumbai double murder case, from Varanasi. A police team from Mumbai is arriving in Varanasi to take custody of the alleged accused.
A Mumbai Police team which is probing the double murder of installation artist Hema Upadhyaya and her lawyer Harish Bhambhani had informed its counterparts in Uttar Pradesh about the possibility of Rajbhar being in Varanasi.
Investigators are also believed to have recovered some clinching evidence which establish his involvement in the crime beyond doubt, STF said. “We have arrested one person so far in connection with the double murder in Mumbai. We are interrogating him”, Inspector General STF Sujit Pandey said.
The STF team raided the house of Sadhu in Kavirampur village under Badagaon police station on Monday noon and caught him. He had reached his place few hours before the STF team reached there.
He has been taken to Badagaon police station for further interrogation and completing legal formalities. Rajbhar is a metal fabrication artist by profession. It is believed that Rajbhar called Hema on Friday suggesting that he had evidence against her estranged husband Chintan Upadhyaya. Hema had filed for a divorce and case is pending in court.
After their conversation Hema agreed to meet Rajbhar along with her lawyer Harish Bhambhani. It is not yet clear whether Rajbhar is directly linked to the murder or not.
