Grant of Rs 35,000 crore to Telangana not received

‘Centre discriminating against the newly-formed Telangana/’

Hyderabad: Telangana finance minister Etela Rajender revealed that the state is entitled to a Rs 35,000 crore grant. “Telangana is entitled to a Rs 35,000-crore grant from the Centre for development of backward areas.

However, as per Niti Aayog recommendations, we have revised the amount to Rs 30,571 crore. We have sent proposals to the Centre in this regard thrice so far but without any result. The CM and I visited Delhi several times and took up the issue with the PM and FM but in vain,” said Mr Etela Rajender.

TRS floor leader in Lok Sabha A.P. Jitender Reddy said, “The Centre discriminating against the newly-formed Telangana. While it had recently released Rs 350 crore to Andhra Pradesh for development of backward areas, it ignored TS despite our repeated requests. We will take up this issue in the ongoing Parliament session and bring pressure on the Centre to clear the dues of TS.”

Telangana had hoped to get Rs 25,223 crore from the Centre towards grants and share in taxes in the budget. But the Centre is yet to pay Rs 6,653 crore.
