Bengaluru: Three sewerage workers die of asphyxiation in tank

The incident took place around 6 pm on Monday when the trio had gone approximately 12 feet deep.

Bengaluru: Three sewerage workers died of asphyxiation while working in a sewer line at the Royal Citadel Apartments on Manipal County Road in Begur, within the Electronic City police limits on Monday. The deceased have been identified as Ranjan, who hails from Odisha, Jagadish, 28, a resident of K.R. Nagar in Mysuru, and Mahesh, 30, from Nepal. Their bodies have been shifted to a government hospital for postmortem.

The incident took place around 6 pm on Monday when the trio had gone approximately 12 feet deep into a sewer line to repair a motor that is used to pump out water. “All the three died due to lack of oxygen inside the pit,” a senior police officer said.

The police have registered a case of negligence against the contractor, Umesh, and have taken him into custody. Umesh is a resident of Kannahalli on Silver Jubilee Park Road. Electronic City police have registered a case and are investigating.
