Services sink Hyderabad in Vijay Hazare match
Mumbai, batting first, were bundled out for just 198 runs.
Hyderabad: Hosts Hyderabad suffered a five-wicket defeat at the hands of Services in their Group ‘A’ Vijay Hazare one-day cricket match played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium here on Sunday.
On a day which witnessed sub-par totals being posted in all three matches played here, Hyderabad were unable to defend their target of 225 against Services.
Electing to bat first, Hyderabad found themselves in trouble almost immediately when opener T. Suman was castled by Suraj Yadav with the score on 11. The hosts never quite recovered from that early blow, losing their next six wickets over the course of 128 runs.
However, lower-order batsmen P. Kaneshkk Naidu (66 not out) and C.V. Milind (54 not out) lent the score a measure of respectability with an unbeaten 85-run partnership. Azharuddin Bloch was the top wicket-taker for Services with 3 for 34.
However, the target was never going to challenge Services, who crossed the line in the 49th over with five wickets in hand. Mumtaz Qadir top-scored with 66 while Rajat Paliwal scored 64. For Hyderabad, Milind and Ravi Kiran captured two wickets each.
In other matches, Punjab defeated Tamil Nadu by six wickets while Mumbai thrashed Assam by 96 runs. Tamil Nadu took first strike and were bowled out for 226. Punjab chased down the target with little drama.
Mumbai, batting first, were bundled out for just 198 runs, but their bowlers came back with a vengeance, shooting out Assam for a paltry 102. For Mumbai, Dhawal Kulkarni picked 4/19.
