Marlon Samuels banned from bowling for 12 months

The ICC said that the all-rounder’s elbow extension exceeded 15 degrees

Dubai: West Indies all-rounder Marlon Samuels has been banned from bowling for 12 months after he was found to have used an illegal bowling action for the second time in two years.

The International Cricket Council said on Sunday that during the West Indies' first test in Sri Lanka in October "Samuel's elbow extension exceeded 15 degrees while bowling and, thus, he employed an illegal bowling action."

The ban is automatic after a second offense. Samuels had also been suspended for an illegal bowling action in international cricket in 2013.

Samuels can appeal any procedural aspect of the decision.

However, the council adds in the statement that "only after the expiry of this one-year period will he be entitled to approach the ICC for a re-assessment of his bowling action."
