TRS grows by leaps and bounds in Warangal
Warangal: After its resounding victory in the byelection for the LS seat and the unanimous victory in the MLC election, the TRS is setting itself up to grab the mayor’s seat in the upcoming municipal elections. A TRS leader said that election may take place after the Medaram Jatara in February.
The party is tightening its grip over Warangal city, running away with everything in its way, leaving the Opposition in tatters. At present, no party is as strong as the TRS in the district as is evident from the result the party achieved in the recent byelection. In fact, other parties are losing much of their cadre to the TRS.
Before the byelection, Rajya Sabha member Gundu Sudharani dumped the TD to join the TRS, while Rajarapu Pratap, who was disappointed at not being given a ticket to contest for LS seat, left the Congress for the TRS. The TD is losing its cadre gradually in the district. In the 1994 general elections, the party had won all seats except for Dornakal constituency. In 2009 it could win only four seats and in 2014, even as it managed to win two, it lost one, as Challa Dharma Reddy, who won from Parkal, left TD for the TRS.
With this situation, the opposition parties are left struggling to find candidates to contest for them.
