This deal a colossal cop out: Bengaluru activist

The COP21 Climate Change Summit has been an eye-opener for me, says Arati.

Bengaluru: “The COP21 Climate Change Summit has been an eye-opener for me, more like a crash course on how business, trade and politics intersect on a global stage," says young and energetic Arati Kumar Rao, speaking with Deccan Chronicle exclusively about her experience at the climate change summit in Paris that concluded on Saturday.

Ms Rao has been documenting the effects of land use change on ecosystems and livelihoods for more than a decade. "The Paris outcome, in my mind, is a colossal cop out. It has let the historical polluters off the hook and put the world on course to warming way more than the stated goals."

Elaborating on her work, she says, “The effect of land use and river use change on local communities and ecosystems is the focus of my work. One of my projects was 'River Diaries', a deep exploration of ecosystems and communities that spring up around rivers.”
