Chennai: The ‘Beep’ song, with its derogatory lyrics demeaning women, has put actor Simbu and music composer Anirudh Ravichander in a spot of bother with women’s organisations filing a complaint with the police against the duo and many in the social media condemning the song for its objectionable usage of Tamil cuss words.
Simbu, who said it was a song composed by Anirudh and sung by him a year and a half ago, cleared his stand to this newspaper that he is not answerable to anyone since the track is not officially released nor meant for using in any film.
However, Anirudh, who is away in Toronto for a concert, issued a statement that is in complete contrast to Simbu’s original claims. In his statement the Kolaveri di composer has categorically said he has in no way connected to the said ‘Beep’ song.
“I am currently in Canada for my concert (dedicated to flood victims of Chennai) and was busy focusing on the rehearsals and the concert. I was distressed to read today about the controversy surrounding the so called ‘Beep’ song. I would like to clarify my stand on the subject.
“It is neither my composition nor my lyrics and I am not the singer. I wish to state my innocence in this matter categorically. Unfortunately, and to my dismay, my name has been unnecessarily dragged into this controversy even though I am not in any way connected. I wish to reiterate I have the greatest regard and respect for women putting to rest all speculations on this subject.”
