Youth attempts to steal bag, caught

Bengaluru: A 19-year-old youth landed in jail after he was caught and beaten by alert locals on Saturday morning when he tried to snatch a bag from a woman. Zabeer Pasha, a resident of Shammana Garden has arrested by the Vijayanagar police. Police officials said the incident took place around 7.30 am in RPC Layout in Vijayanagar.
Zabeer, an unemployed youth, was waiting near a bakery shop when he noticed an elderly woman walking home alone. He followed her for few metres and then attempted to snatch her bag and flee on his bike. However, he ran out of luck as some alert locals caught the robber red-handed. Soon, an alert was made to the police who then rushed to the spot and arrested the robber, said the police.
The victim a resident of RPC Layout was returning home from a nearby shop when the robber attacked. Police said the woman was carrying a gold chain and Rs 400 in cash in her purse. Vijayanagar police have registered a case and are questioning the youth to ascertain whether he was a first-time offender or have targeted women in the past.
