Driver loses control, rams car into tree.

Bengaluru: A jolly-ride in a car turned tragic for eight second PU students as two of them died on the spot, while one was declared brain dead at the hospital, while three others were battling for their lives in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Two others managed to escape with minor injuries. The two dead students have been identified as Kiran Kumar S., 17, who was driving the car and Charles Froylin, 17. While Kiran Kumar is a resident of Kattugollahalli and studying at the Silicon City College in Chikkabasavanapura in K.R. Puram, Charles Froylin, a resident of Mahadevapura, was a student of Chaitanya PU College, in Chinnappanahalli in Marathahalli.
The victim who was declared brain dead has been identified as Srinivasa Bhat, who was a student of Silicon City College. Srinivasa Bhat has been shifted to Nimhans in a vegetative state, the doctor said. The other students who were grievously injured were Sheshadri alias Sheshu, Kiran Kumar Pand Manikumar, all from Silicon City College. The condition of Sheshadri is said to be very critical with the doctor suggesting an immediate surgery as he had got a huge clot in his brain and a fracture of his spine. Jayakumar and Avinash escaped with minor injuries, with one of them sustaining a fracture and the other minor bruises.
According to the police, Kiran Kumar whisked away his father’s Hyundai Verna car from his house on Saturday and drove to his college in Chikkabasavanapura. After an hour of class, Kiran and six of his classmates and another college mates decided to drive towards Nandi Hills. They decided to tell their respective parents that they have extra classes for the day.
All of them left the college around 10.15 am, after they picked up Charles Froylin, who was Kiran Kumar’s friend. While three of them were sitting in the front seat, five of them managed to squeeze into the rear seat with some sitting on the laps of others. The car was overweight and as the newly-laid Budhigere-Devanahalli Cargo Road had no traffic, Kiran stepped on the accelerator and drove the car at high speed.
When the car reached Menchepnahalli gate near the KPTCL station around 11 am, it lost control, went off the road and collided on to a tree and a boulder. Passersby stopped to help the students, ambulances were called and the police were informed. Kiran Kumar and Charles Froylin received fatal injuries after getting trapped in the mangled remains of the car. The police later extricated their bodies and they were sent to Devanahalli Government Hospital for post-mortem. Later the police pulled out other students from the mangled car and shifted them in ambulances to Sathya Sai Orthopaedic Hospital in Battarahalli. Channarayanapattana rural police have registered a case of accident and begun investigations.
