Secunderabad Cantonment Board vice-president’s illegal cellar demolished at Tadbun
Hyderabad: Secunderabad Cantonment Board vice-president S. Keshav Reddy was found constructing an illegal cellar in a commercial building at Tadbun cross roads. The cellar was demolished by Secunderabad Cantonment Board staff on Friday and this led to a scuffle between the V-P and SCB staff.
The V-P effectively owns the ground plus first floor building in Tadbun (according to SCB staff) which is very near the Begumpet airport. He was constructing a cellar and was planning to lease it out to a motorcycle company to establish a showroom.
The Secunderabad Cantonment Board staff demolished the under construction cellar following which the V-P allegedly abused the staff.
The building has a ground floor and a first floor and was built in the 1990s. According to SCB regulations even a building with first floor is not allowed near the airport.
Sources confirmed that the Secunderabad Canton-ment Board V-P was constructing the cellar without obtaining permission from the SCB board. The area of the plot hosting the building is around 5,000 plus square yards.
When contacted SCB ward 2 member S. Keshav Reddy said, “The building is owned by one Mr Satyanarayana Reddy, a resident of the SCB area and a relative of mine. The demolished part is an internal construction in the cellar. The SCB demolished it without serving any notice. Why is there a disparity in implementing the law when it comes to civilians? Why are different standards being applied when it comes to the Army? An Army association built a function hall on A1 defence land measuring 4,000 square yards without obtaining permission from the SCB. They applied for permission only after the construction. In that case the SCB CEO issued a notice to the Army association and no demolition was done. Now the Army wants it to be regularised. But when it comes to civilians demolitions are carried out. Why no option is given to civilians to regularise illegal structures?”
