Sanitation, parking plague SCB area
Hyderabad: Pearl Garden, a function palace located in the SCB area, was penalised Rs 1.20 lakh for dumping leftover food and garbage in the common dustbin on the roads. Royal Lee Palace was also fined, while Classic Garden and Imperial were issued notices by the SCB’s sanitation wing.
The SCB area has over 20 function halls and a majority of them hand over garbage to an agency. Some of them, however, dump it in the open. Over 110 metric tonnes of garbage is generated every day in the SCB.
The two prime issues concerning the function palaces in the SCB area are sanitation and parking. There have been several complaints that guests park their vehicles on the main roads leading to traffic jams. Besides, some function palaces dump garbage in the common bins instead of using the separate disposal system.
SCB ceo Sujata Gupta had confirmed that the function halls were being fined up to Rs 1 lakh and warnings are issued time and again. “Many of them have tied up with an agency to dispose of the waste but a few are unwilling to spend money and are dumping the waste on roads,” she said.
If the municipal solid waste management rules are implemented, following nod by the defence ministry, citizens found littering in the area will be fined '500 while dumping hazardous waste from hospitals on the roads will attract a penalty of Rs 10,000.
