THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Wishes and gifts for any auspicious occasion have drastically changed. These days there are smart methods of wishes rather than simple ones. Christmas and New Year are the most prominent occasions where absolutely every individual exchanges wishes and greetings.
Some years back, before smartphones came into a common man’s hands, the practice was to send Christmas and New Year wishes through greeting cards.
A stack of different varieties and colours of cards, sometimes even handmade, were posted to dear and near. And receiving cards from a postman were also moments to cherish.
These day’s wishes are conveyed in much more sophisticated and smart ways through different social media platforms. The latest of these are known as GIFs which are a lossless format for image files that support animated as well as static images. In simple words, GIFs (GRAPHICS INTERCHANGE FORMAT) are both a picture and a video combined.
It may be a simple picture of a snowman with animation effects of snowfall or even your favorite cartoon character wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. There are numerous applications in order to download your own GIFs.
Another way to convey your wish in a much more grand way is through E-cards. They may be simple cards with or without 3D effects, the only difference is that they are larger in size, and are meant for your special list of loved ones who deserve something more than a simple wish. However at the end of the day it does not matter whether it’s a postcard or an E-card, a facebook post or a whatsapp image or even a tweet from twitter.
It’s all the same when it comes from the bottom of your heart. Since wishing someone happiness doesn’t cost you anything, like the words of Maya Angelou, “No one has ever become poor by Giving”.
Christmas is indeed a celebration of spreading happiness, by giving gifts and wishes. So we just have to choose from the wide range of options we have.
