Kochi police busts inter-state chain-snatching gang

The culprits used the money to lead a luxury life.

KOCHI: A Kochi police team has busted a six-member inter-state chain snatching gang involved in 160 cases of motorbike-borne chain snatching in different parts of the state.

The gang members were held in special operation held under the leadership of city police commissioner MP Dinesh, DCP Harishankar and special branch assistant commissioner Babukumar.

The police identified the accused as Vishnu Aravind 27, Imran Khan 31, Arjun Haridas 20 and Ajith 23, the main members of gang involved in snatching the chains. Shihab 25 and Devaraj 36, the other two persons arrested were involved in buying stolen gold chains by the culprits.

Kochi DCP Harishankar told reporters that the gang was involved in snatching gold chains worth nearly 300 sovereigns.

The gang was trapped after Imran was spotted in CCTV footages near Kunnumpuram near Edappally on December 1 after a chain snatching incident in the same area.

The police also recovered six bikes used by the culprits. Five of them were stolen, police said. The culprits used the money to lead a luxury life.
