Huge rush for Telangana’s 2BHK scheme
Hyderabad: The demand for housing has risen to unprecedented levels in the city, thanks to TRS government’s 2BHK housing scheme. While 1.85 lakh applications are already pending with the government in GHMC limits from the poor seeking houses, demand surged all of a sudden after the government launched the 2BHK project in multiple locations ahead of the GHMC polls.
IT minister K.T. Rama Rao along with city ministers is on a foundation-laying spree to construct the houses. On Saturday, Mr Rama Rao laid the foundation for a 2BHK project in Kavadiguda. He announced that one lakh 2BHK flats would be built in the city within three years.
After the government handed over nearly 400, 2BHK flats in IDH colony recently, the district collectorates of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts are flooded with applications for 2BHK houses.
The situation has reached such an extent that the government had to issue instructions to collectorates not to accept any fresh applications till further orders. However, the number of applications with the GHMC had crossed 1.85 lakh by then.
Local TRS leaders have started receiving applications from people with an eye on votes on the GHMC elections. They are assuring the poor that they will get the flats if the TRS wins the GHMC polls.
Not only people from poorer sections, even those from middle class and the salaried are vying to submit applications to local TRS leaders seeking houses as they are being built by spending up to Rs 9 lakh apiece with all facilities in the G+9 format.
Given this heavy rush, those who had submitted applications at collectorates are worried about their fate and have started submitting applications afresh to local TRS leaders. Thanks to the rush for 2BHK houses, all other problems being faced in colonies and bastis like drinking water shortage, poor drainage and bad roads have taken a backseat
