ISIS launches app, social networking site to radicalise youth online
Washington: Ramping up its online efforts to recruit jihadis and spread its nefarious activities, the Islamic State has launched an app that will feature its propaganda videos and other ISIS related news, according to reports.
The app is called ‘Amaq News’ and its primary function is to ‘streamline access’ to Islamic State’s propaganda and activities. The hacking collective Ghost security group had stumbled upon the app, which functions like your average news app, except that its ‘news’ is ISIS propaganda.
According to a Fortune report, the app is run by the Amaq News Agency, which has reportedly tied up with the Islamic State.
The android-based app cannot be found and downloaded from the play store like other android apps. According to the report, the app can only be downloaded after an ISIS member shares the link with someone through encrypted communication measures.
Like any other news app, once a user downloads it, the portal will show a news feed, that includes ISIS executions videos, battle scenes, propaganda by Jihadis and all their other activities. Users can scroll and watch what they want to on the app.
The app however is known to work only in ISIS controlled regions for now.
And in another unprecedented move, the terror outfit had launched its own social networking site on the lines of Facebook called ‘Kilafahbook’ to work around the bans it has been facing on popular online social networking sites.
Sites like Facebook and Twitter were main hunting ground for the ISIS recruiters who looked to radicalise gullible youth online. But with stricter online policies and bans, ISIS decided to float its own site for those looking join them.
