ICC World T20: Hot match in Himalayas
Mumbai: India and Pakistan might be hesitant to play bilateral series but the two will certainly light up the ICC World Twenty20 in India next year. The sub-continent’s arch-rivals are scheduled to clash in a Super 10 Group 2 league game in picturesque Dharamsala on March 19.
The two sides have produced riveting clashes in the previous five World T20 editions with India winning every time including the memorable final win in Johannesburg in the inaugural edition. The much-awaited match will be preceded by a clash between the women’s teams from the two countries in New Delhi.
Besides, Australia and New Zealand have been pitted in the same group along with a qualifier. Defending champions Sri Lanka are in Group 1 along with former champions the West Indies and England. South Africa are also in the same group along with a qualifier. New Zealand, South Africa and Australia are yet to win a World T20 title.
The ICC on Friday unveiled the groups and schedule of the event, which will be staged across eight venues in India from March 8 to April 3. New Delhi and Mumbai will host the semifinals on March 30 and 31 respectively, while Eden Gardens in Kolkata will host the April 3 final.
Qualifiers Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and six associate teams will vie first in Dharamsala and Nagpur for the two spots in the Super 10s. Bangladesh are in Group ‘A’ along with Netherlands, Ireland and Oman.
