Why no coordination: Madras High Court

Concern over distribution of flood relief
Chennai: The Madras high court has ordered notice to the Central and state governments in the matter of distribution of relief materials to the flood-affected.
The first bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana, before which a PIL filed by advocate A.P. Suryaprakasam came up for hearing, said, “What concerns (us) is there seems to be a lack of coordination among agencies in distributing relief materials.”
The petitioner sought formation of micro-level committees for effective distribution of relief materials. The bench said it was not inclined to entertain the PIL filed by Suryaprakasam. Instead, it would take up the matter as suo motu PIL.
The Bench observed that contributions made towards flood relief works could be used for this purpose alone, instead of adding it to the general chief minister’s relief fund. Advocate-general A. L. Somayaji said door-to-door enumeration of victims was being done properly. The bench directed the state and Central governments to file their replies by December 15.
