Kochi: Kerala High Court on Friday stayed further proceedings in the defamation case filed by excise minister K. Babu against bar owner Biju Ramesh before the Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court.
Justice B. Kemal Pasha stayed the order on a plea filed by Biju Ramesh, working president of the Kerala Bar Hotel Owners' Association.
Biju Ramesh sought to quash the case pending before the JFCM. The court adjourned hearing in the case to January 18, 2016.
K. Babu filed the case against Biju Ramesh after he alleged that Babu had accepted a bribe of Rs 10 crore for facilitating the renewal of bar licences and that the said statement was carried in print and visual media. The Magistrate Court had earlier asked Biju Ramesh to appear before the court but the High Court granted exemption for him.
