BENGALURU: The state planning commission is set to make major recommendations, including a revamp of the state bureaucracy on the lines of Tamil Nadu, more populist schemes, and resource mobilization, when discussions commence ahead of next year’s budget. Deputy chairman of the state planning commission, C.M. Ibrahim, told the media here that his organization would recommend promotions to officers of the state cadre so that they and officers of the all-India cadre would be of the same ratio, 50:50. Officers of the state cadre would have knowledge of socio-economic conditions and topography of the state besides vast experience.
Amma Canteens?
Skirting a reply to a question on whether the government plans to introduce inexpensive canteens on the lines of ones launched in Tamil Nadu, he said the issue would be taken up after elections to the Legislative Council. He, however, dropped enough hints that such canteens could be a reality after the next budget.
“Earlier, we proposed that. However, after Anna Bhagya and other pro-poor schemes, there were allegations that we were making people lazy. So, we held back the proposal. We will take it up after elections to upper House,” he added.
Meanwhile, the state planning commission has decided to approach the Union government to rectify certain anomalies in the new mineral policy, which was giving cost advantage for old miners. “After illegal mines were seized, the Union government decided to auction them. However, those holding old leases are mining without paying any lease amount to the state, thus making the most of advantage of inexpensive operations. This is coming on the way of resource mobilization from mines and minerals,” Mr. Ibrahim said.
