Mohammed Nisham claims he was under treatment

Prosecution lawyers said that the statement would not make any impact on the case.
Thrissur: Mohammed Nisham, accused in the Chandrabose murder case, in a written statement submitted to the trial court here on Friday, stated that he was undergoing treatment for bi-polar disorder.
A prosecution lawyer, who read the statement of which a certified copy is yet to be issued by the court, told DC that the statement said that he had been undergoing treatment for the disorder in Bangalore even four days before January 29, the day on which he allegedly rammed his Hummer on Chandrabose and later brutally assaulted him.
The court had completed questioning the accused on Thursday and asked him whether he had anything more to tell the court. Nisham had then said that he would give a detailed written statement to the court.
Prosecution lawyers said that the statement would not make any impact on the case. “How can a person who claims to have such a disorder submit a written statement as per CrPC 313(5) in the first place? His lawyers should have told the court that the accused is insane and so cannot prepare such a statement.”
