Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s 24 hours helpline — 155304 — is not of much help. At around 11.30 pm, a damaged garbage truck had spilled an unidentified liquid near the railway bridge near Bansilalpet in Secunderabad. The liquid spread on the road and a few two-wheeler riders slipped and sustained injuries. One of the victims called up the GHMC emergency helpline but was told that help would arrive only the next morning.
Fortunately, for the motorists, officials from the Mahankali police station reached the spot and spread sand over the liquid. It was only after an hour and after making some phone calls to officials that a GHMC worker responded to the complaint. The GHMC has 24 circles in five zones. A GHMC official said that staff is allotted for morning and night shifts only in four circles. “They attend to emergency work in other circles too,” he said.
