Curves at Bowenpally stretch leading to Medchal are too dangerous

The Bowenpally stretch leading to Medchal is turning into a death trap.
Hyderabad: The Bowenpally stretch leading to Medchal is turning into a death trap. In December alone, four accidents have taken place there, killing two people, due to sharp turns of the road. This is raising the anxiety of motorists who use the stretch on a regular basis. Earlier, the road was under repair and commuters rarely used it. However, after the Cantonment Board re-carpeted it, over six accidents have occurred. The ward members had in the past called for widening of
the curves, but to no avail.
SCB Ward 1 member BM Jakula Maheshwar Reddy explained, “This road adjoins Suchitra to Bowenpally cross roads, wherein the stretch is between the military land on the left and right sides. The stretch especially near YES bank is very dangerous. Many accidents have taken place there. The road is 40 feet and we are not able to put a divider.” “In November, a couple met with an accident. Both work for an IT company. Another engineering student was hit by a Swift car. The curves were designed in a dangerous manner. In one accident, five people were injured and the IT couple is still in hospital,” said Reddy.
Ward 5 member J. Rama Krishna said, “There is about one to two accidents here every fortnight. The traffic load is huge and the number of vehicles plying on this stretch is increasing fast.” “The curve near the Muslim grave yard is very narrow and the entry is getting choked. A road-widening at the cross road in Bowenpally is badly needed. The stretch is surrounded by A1 defence (unused) land. Army has been requested to provide land for road widening,” he said.
The increase in road accidents and related issues were raised by ward members at the Secunderabad Cantonment Board meeting on Thursday. The nominated officers from the Army end said they would inspect the road.
