Cops beaten up by MLA

Raja pushed SHO, SI for not letting him meet aide.
Hyderabad: BJP’s Goshamahal MLA, Raja Singh allegedly assaulted two officers in Bollarum police station while he was in custody on Thursday. Officials alleged that the MLA came out of the station, argued with cops and pushed the station house officer (SHO) and a sub-inspector aside for not letting one of his associates meet him. Police booked a case against the MLA under IPC Sections 353 (assault to deter a public servant from performing duty) and 506 (criminal intimidation). The MLA had been earlier booked for attacking a policeman this year. Mr Raja Singh, who was under South Zone police custody, was taken to Bollarum police station on Thursday after he was arrested for threatening to attack OU students for conducting the beef festival.
Police said Mr Singh was made to sit in the police station when one of his aides wanted to meet him. “We were ready to let him give food or any items required by the MLA, but he wanted to sit inside the police station with him. We did not allow it since it was illegal for someone to spend time with a detainee. This provoked him and he created a ruckus,” a cop said. “He came out of the station to confront the cops who stopped his aide. He abused the inspector and SI. He also pushed them and assaulted them,” said the officer.
The cops took him inside the police station again and booked a case against him.
“We booked a case against him for assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty and for criminal intimidation,” said North Zone additional DCP P.Y. Giri. On May 1, Mr Singh and his aides allegedly beat up a police officer at Mangalhat when he was trying to stop a DJ party.
According to records and affidavit filed by Mr Singh for the 2014 elections, there are 19 criminal cases against him. Most cases are for hate speech, while others are for attempt to murder, for possessing arms and assaulting the police.
