Cop: Kidnapped girl not daughter of Rwandan Minister

The two kidnappers have been arrested, the police said.

NAMAKKAL: The Rwandan girl studying in Namakkal who was kidnapped in Kolkata and rescued by the Delhi police, is not the daughter of a Rwandan Minister, a senior police officer in Namakkal said on Friday.

Deccan Chronicle had correctly reported that the abducted Rwandan student, 19-year-old Niwe Mugeni Marie Grace, is a daughter of a Rwandan government official. However, a section of the English media went to town with incorrect reports that Niwe Mugeni Marie Grace is the daughter of a Rwandan Minister.

“She is not the daughter of a Rwandan minister. Her father, Bicago Juvenal, is an official in the Rwandan government,” said the Rasipuram DSP Raju. The Muthayammal arts and science college, where the girl is studying, also clarified that she is the daughter of a Rwandan official and not Rwandan minister.

The second year microbiology student, who went to Kolkata during the semester vacation, was kidnapped by her suspected online contacts. She was rescued by the Delhi police in Kolkata on Thursday morning. The two kidnappers have been arrested, the police said.
