Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy along with his cabinet colleagues met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday and demanded a new dam at Mullaperiyar for ensuring the safety of the people.
Mr Chandy assured the Prime Minister that the state would provide the required water to Tamil Nadu when a new dam was constructed.
Mr Modi said that he would address the concerns of the state. Though the state government was demanding a new dam for a very long period, Tamil Nadu had been opposing it.
In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister, the state wanted the central government to act as a mediator in the discussion with Tamil Nadu on the issue.
The state also asked the centre to form a panel of experts to study the present state of the dam.
The team sought a financial aid from the central government to procure rubber from farmers for Rs 150 per kilogram. Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh promised to extend financial aid to Kerala from the Price
Stabilisation Fund for controlling price rise. He also promised to consider relaxing the Coastal Regulation Zone rules after discussions with states.
The state sought the approval for trial flight from Kannur airport during the discussions with Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathy Raju.
Mr Chandy, after meeting the Prime Minister, refused to answer the questions raised by mediapersons about the solar commission attempt to seize the controversial CD in the solar case.
