Favourite TV show: Seinfeld
My all time favourite show is Seinfeld. I’m a big fan of Jerry Seinfeld and I started watching his shows when I was 15. I have seen all the episodes and the camaraderie between Jerry and Cosmo Kramer is amazing. I keep going back to the show very often. Jerry basically is a very judgmental guy who judges people at the drop of the hat and keeps breaking up with his girlfriends for the same reason, because she is not hygienic, or uses the same toothbrush that her father uses etc. He is hilarious!

Favourite Album: Pocket Symphony
There is an album by Air called Pocket Symphony. I think it’s one of the most beautiful albums that I have heard. The whole album is amazing. It’s a really old album. I’m now more attracted to the way music sounds, in terms of how it is produced and the production in this album is amazing because it still sounds so fresh. I heard it many years ago and I keep rediscovering it. I used to fall asleep to it, I remember the fourth and the fifth track were slightly upbeat, so I used to play it from the next track onwards and fall asleep to it.

Favourite restaurant: True Blue, Singapore
One restaurant that I have fond memories of was a Peranakan restaurant called True Blue in Singapore. Peranakans are Chinese descendants who came to Malaysia and Singapore. So the food is made with Chinese ingredients with various distinct spices and cooking techniques used by the Malay/Indonesian community. It is worth trying!
Grotto san Rocco is another restaurant that I would recommend. Situated in Ascona in Switzerland, this restaurant is on an island, where you can reach by a ferry and sit under a tree where your table is and enjoy Italian and Swiss specials with ingredients that are grown in the restaurant itself and it is over-looking the sea.

Favourite film: Saving Private Ryan
Saving Private Ryan is my all time favourite film. It is a Steven Spielberg film and I have seen it a hundred times at least. I’m a huge World War II fan and I saw the film in a theatre in London some 20 years ago. I have recorded the film on my set-top box as well and keep re-watching it whenever I get the time. I would suggest that no one should miss the beginning of the film. I was blown away by the way the film was made and every time I watch it, I rediscover something new.

Favourite book: A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole
One book I would recommend to everyone is A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. The name comes from a Jonathan Swift quotation — “When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him.” It is the picaresque story of one Ignatius J. Reilly, a slovenly, misanthropic, overweight modern-day Don Quixote with a love of Boethius and a disdain for popular culture. He describes his misadventures as he blunders through New Orleans searching for purpose and the meaning of life.
The story behind the book is one of Literature’s great tragedies. The author, John Kennedy Toole, committed suicide in 1969, shortly after writing the book, due to depression and repeated rejection, and it took his mother almost 11 years to find someone who would help her publish the manuscript. Finally, Walker Percy managed to get the book released, and it went on to win the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1981.

Favourite play: Mera Woh Matlab Nahin Tha
When I left the theatre after watching Mera Woh Matlab Nahin Tha, I had a new favourite. The layers to each character and to each relationship was portrayed impeccably. I could not help but feel I had lived their lives with them. I loved how the play touched on many aspects of life like love, happiness, sadness, marriage and even old age. I can definitely say it’s a must watch and I loved the fact that I could connect with each character at an emotional level.
