Police stations at Marredpally, Karkhana to go
Both police stations are under the control of SCB.
Hyderabad: The Marredpally and Kharkhana police stations will be demolished to pave the way for road widening. Secunderabad Cantonment Board members in principle have approved the request of the Telangana police department for allotting land in the Cantonment area for new stations.
Both police stations are under the control of SCB. They were built during the British era as cattle pounds.
The Board on Thursday agreed to allocate land measuring 4,000 square yards in GLR Survey No. 487 adjacent to the Jubilee Bus Station for the Marredpally police station and 2,000 square yards behind Kharkhana bus stop for the Kharkhana police station.
The approval of the Board members will be sent to the Union ministry of defence for final nod, following which the buildings will be demolished.
The process will take six months to a year. The Marredpally police station is a heritage structure built during the British era in the Cantonment area.
It is located on the West Marredpally road adjacent to a dargah. The Kharkhana station is located on the main road leading to Trimulgherry.
The Board has also approved setting up of CCTV cameras at various traffic junctions and public places in West Marredpally.
The SCB authorities will also start a demolition drive of unused toilets in the Cantonment area from December 11.
