Malappuram action council to intensify stir against cops

Subsequent public protests demanding action had also turned violent on Wednesday.

Subsequent public protests demanding action had also turned violent on Wednesday. Police sources said there was an attempt to single out and target Wandoor circle inspector K.C. Babu for the incident and they all would oppose it.
An official told DC that the situation was so volatile that failure in dispersing the rough crowd would have resulted in more casualties as they had started setting vehicles ablaze and stoning officers.
The Action Council of the residents is planning to intensify their agitation against quarrying saying many of them are fly-by-night operators.
District collector T. Bhaskaran has directed closure of these quarries, but the village office here is yet to receive the order, they said.
Action council leader Hudaif Kampalavan said they would demand immediate action against the CI in the meeting the district collector had convened on Saturday.
“If the government fails to accept our demands including Rs 25-lakh compensation for the family of the victim, reimbursing the treatment expenses of those injured in the violence and action against the CI, we have plans to shift the venue of the agitation to the district collectorate,” he told DC
