Extremists blind to religion: Yogesh Master
Rationalist had portrayed Lord Ganesh in ‘bad light’ in his book
Thrissur:Religious extremists have not understood the values of their religions in its real sense, writer and theatre activists Yogesh Master, has said.
The Bangalore-based writer, while speaking at a meeting of Human Rights Activists here at the Sahithya Akademi Hall on Thursday, said that all the extremists of Hindu, Muslim and Christian religions do not have any connection with religion and were using it for their personal gains.
The writer, who was arrested by the Karnataka police in 2013 for his controversial novel Dundhi, for allegedly portraying Lord Ganapathi in bad light, said that his attempt was always to present the Hindu gods in their real sense by employing techniques of folklore and not as per the brahmanical concept and that was the reason for the controversy.
Master, who was closely associated with murdered Kannada writer M M Kalburgi, attended the event with the protection of two gunmen provided by Bangalore Police.
Taking potshots at extremists who were allegedly involved in the string of assassinations of rational writers including Kalburgi, he said: “Now it is the time of ‘pen-gun’ relationship. Writers who oppose fascism with the pen need protection of the gun men.”
