Bengaluru: Youth attacks aunt for rejecting proposal

A 24-year-old woman was attacked by her jilted lover near her paying accommodation in Vijayanagar.

Bengaluru: A 24-year-old woman was attacked by her jilted lover near her paying accommodation in Vijayanagar on Wednesday. The accused happened to be none other than her estranged husband’s nephew.

Police said the accused, identified as Neelakanta, 21, a native of Hosadurga, had attacked the victim, Lakshmi alias Rangalakshmi, native of Hosadurga in Chitradurga, on her face using a blade.

Lakshmi got married to Madhu four years ago, but nearly a year ago they began staying separately following differences. While Madhu stayed back at Hosadurga, Lakshmi moved to Bengaluru recently and rented a paying guest accommodation - Mamata PG in Subbanna Garden in Vijayanagar, police added.

On Wednesday evening, Madhu’s sister’s son Neelakanta came to Subbanna Garden and called on Lakshmi’s cell phone and asked her to meet him near her PG accommodation.

Being a relative she agreed and both met at a Nandini milk parlour near Vijayanagar bus stand at around 8:30 pm, the police said. Neelakanta was in love with the woman and expressed his desire to marry her, despite being his aunt and her estrangement from his uncle, said the police.

Lakshmi reportedly advised Neelakanta that she was elder to him and could not marry him. Enraged over refusal, Neelakanta flipped out a blade from his pocket, slashed Lakshmi’s cheeks and forehead before fleeing the spot, the police said. Lakshmi was bleeding profusely and few passersby along with victim’s PG mates rushed her to a private hospital nearby where she is undergoing treatment, added the police.
