Bengaluru: Corporator accused of assaulting political rival
Bengaluru: Rajanna, a 58-year-old businessman has lodged a police complaint against Mallasandra ward corporator N. Lokesh and few others on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting him and his son, while they were at their construction site on 6th cross Pipeline road near Aiyappa School in Peenya police station limits on Wednesday morning.
However, the police have confirmed that there was also a counter-complaint lodged by Lokesh against Rajanna for assaulting him and his supporters, while he had gone to Rajanna’s site to pacify a fight between one of his workers and Rajanna.
According to Rajanna, one Jayaramu, who works for the corporator Lokesh, had come to Rajanna’s site, where he was building a house. Jayaramu started arguing and verbally abusing Rajanna over a garbage issue nearby, as they were political rivals during the recent ward council elections. While Rajanna is a Congress supporter, Jayaramu and N. Lokesh are from BJP.
Heated arguments ensued between the two and some neighbours separated them. “Meanwhile at around 9.30 am, Lokesh along with his henchmen, came to the site, started abusing me and my son and later assaulted us,” Rajanna told Deccan Chronicle.
The corporator and his men allegedly assaulted Rajanna and his son Madhusudhan using a hammer and bricks. Rajanna went to a nearby private hospital and was administered first-aid. He later lodged a police complaint.
However, Lokesh told Deccan Chronicle that his associate Jayaramu and Girish, who were in-charge for garbage management in the ward, had gone to Rajanna’s site and advised them not to hamper garbage collection work and thus the argument started.
“When we got to know about the incident, we rushed to the spot to separate them. After reaching there while we took our two men to hospital, Rajanna and his son got treatment at another hospital and lodged a complaint against us,” N. Lokesh told this newspaper. “We have registered a counter complaint against him with the police and let the police investigate to find out the truth,” Lokesh added.
