The police said one of the gang member would pick up individual passengers in share autorickshaws.
Hyderabad: The North Zone police on Thursday arrested eight members of an attention diversion gang, all of them from Uttar Pradesh, that stole jewellery and cash from passengers travelling in autorickshaws. Police seized 40 tolas of gold, Rs 1.7 lakh cash and eight mobile phones from them. North Zone additional DCP P. Yadagiri said the gang was involved in 12 attention diversion cases across Hyderabad.
The police said one of the gang member would pick up individual passengers in share autorickshaws. After some distance, two or three other members of the gang would board the vehicle as passengers.
During the course of the journey, they would distract the victim and steal cash and jewellery. He said the gang had struck thrice in Karkhana, twice in Market Police Station and in Chilkalguda and once each at Gopalapuram, Dundigal, Jagadgirigutta and Saifabad.
