Rebels in 4 Council seats could pose threat to Congress candidates

The ruling Congress party is facing serious dissidence in the legislative Council polls.
Bengaluru: The ruling Congress party is facing serious dissidence in the legislative Council polls from the local bodies constituencies with at least four senior leaders entering the fray and in no mood to withdraw at present. Two of the prominent rebel candidates are former minister, K. Jayaprakash Hegde contesting from Dakshina Kannada constituency and incumbent MLC from Bengaluru Urban, Dayananda Reddy who have turned out be a threat to the official candidates. Besides this, the party has problems in Mandya, Kolar-Chikkaballapura and Ballari constituencies where internal sabotage could hurt its prospects severely.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a senior leader in the Congress said that efforts are on to convince Mr Hegde and Mr Reddy who are strong leaders with a hold over gram panchayat members, to withdraw. “We have time till December 12 to make them withdraw their papers. But if they stick to their guns, then it will surely mar the prospects of party candidates. "We are facing a bigger threat in constituencies like Ballari, Kolar and Mandya, where the party units are divided over the selection of candidates and nobody is even coming out to campaign for the candidate now”, he said.
