Now, Acharya Nagarjuna University to organise beef festival
Guntur: The ongoing Beef Festival campaign in the universities in Telangana is spreading to Andhra Pradesh. Dalit students said they would conduct a beef festival in the Acharya Nagarjuna University even as Hindu organisations have strongly protested the move. The Hindu Dharma Samrakshana Samanyava Samithi has called upon ANU authorities to disallow the proposed beef festival on its campus.
The National Dalith Students Federation (NDSF) has announced its support to the proposed Beef Festival scheduled for December 10 in Osmania University. NDSF president M. Gopalakrishna and secretary Anand Babu stressed that the Indian Constitution gave all rights to the citizens in matters of food consumption as also in practising one's faith. The saffron party and its associates are snatching away the privileges of the citizens as regards their food choices, he alleged.
Hindu Dharma Rakshana Samrakashana Samithi (HDRSS) activists led by its district president D. Srinivas met ANU in-charge vice-chancellor Prof. VSS Kumar and urged him to stop beef festival on the ANU campus. “There is no beef culture on the university campuses in AP. Now, this new culture will create differences among the students belonging to various castes and religions. We will hold protests if beef festival is held on ANU campus,” he said.
Srinivas also demanded that the government initiate action to stop beef festival plans.
