Anti-LPS farmer’s crop razed in Guntur

Mr Kumar said he and his family own 7.3 acres of agriculture land in Lingayapalem

Guntur: The CRDA demolished ripened banana crops over 7.5 acres worth Rs 20 lakh belonging to a non-LPS farmer at Lingayapalem in the capital region on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, G. Rajesh Kumar lodged a complaint with the police alleging that the CRDA officials had cleared the land though he had not joined the land pooling scheme. He alleged that the government was trying to create fear among non-LPS farmers by destroying their crops.

Speaking to this newspaper, Mr Kumar said he and his family own 7.3 acres of agriculture land in Lingayapalem. They had filed an objection under Form 9.2 informing the CRDA of their refusal to part with the land for the LPS.

He said the family stays in Vijayawada and visits the farm frequently. Mr Kumar claimed that CRDA officials and local leaders had several times pressurised them to give up their lands under the LPS but they had refused. He alleged that on Tuesday night, CRDA staff using four bulldozers cleared the banana plantation.

Police said a complaint had been registered. The CRDA’s Chennakesavalu said an inquiry would be conducted into the incident, and action would be taken on guilty officials.
