Rajini Murugan saved my mom and grandmom’s lives: Keerthy Suresh
She was one of the celebrities affected by the recent floods in Chennai.
Keerthy Suresh, daughter of yesteryear heroine Menaka, who has worked with the likes of Rajinikanth, was one of the celebrities affected by the recent floods in Chennai. Like many other celebs who faced a similar problem, water entered the ground floor of her bungalow, which is situated on the 100 feet road in Vadapalani. But what made it nightmarish was the fact that Keerthy’s grandmother was to undergo a surgery at MIOT Hospital (which is under scrutiny for alleged death of 18 ICU patients due to failure of oxygen cylinder and lack of electricity) on December 1, but was postponed to Dec 2 as her paatti wanted to watch Rajini Murugan before getting operated.
Speaking from Trivandrum, Keerthy tells DC, “I would say Rajini Murugan saved the lives of my grandmother and my mom.” With a sigh of relief the actress starts narrating the experience, “My grandmother Saroja was admitted at the MIOT hospital with my mom alone being a bystander. As they denied the permission to have an extra bystander to take turns, my uncle and granduncle had to return home. Within a few minutes of their arrival at home, the rains poured and water levels increased drastically. Before we could realise what was happening, water started getting inside the house and we were running around from room to room to secure important things. It was almost knee level, and the electricity went off. With few hours the inverter ran dry as well — we gathered whatever possible and shifted upstairs.”
The actress says that she could see hundreds of people struggling to reach the metro station near her house. According to her, it was pathetic to watch a mother carrying an infant, kids riding on the back of adults, elderly people walking carefully with walking stick, and so on. She adds, “By night, mobile networks started crashing and the last information that I got from my mother was that the surgery was called off because water had flooded the generator room at the hospital. The next day, all of us managed to leave my house with the help of my colleague. Before we could even go to the hospital, my mom finally called up saying she reached my neighbour’s place. Then I had to go back to pick them up. The minute I saw them is when I felt completely relaxed.”
Her mother Menaka says, “My mother wanted to watch Rajini Murugan before going to the hospital and I do not know what went through her mind. We spoke to Sivakarthikeyan and organised a special screening for her. She was very happy and blessed,” she adds. “I think it was due to God’s grace that the surgery didn’t happen. Because if it had, then she would have been stuck in the ICU — the next day I freaked out when I read that 18 people died at the hospital. So, I thank Rajini Murugan for saving my mom and grandmom,” she
concludes.
