I’m not conscious of my image: Sharman Joshi

It’s hard to form an idea because the box office is very unpredictable: Sharman Joshi

After his last success with Ferrari Ki Sawari, Sharman Joshi failed to impress at the box office. The flops became a little too frequent but all that seems to have changed with his latest release Hate Story 3. As the film continues to fetch favourable returns at the box office, the actor settles down to have a chat with us, where he shares his filmi plans. Excerpts:

Would you agree that skin show is a ticket to scoring at the box office?
The skin show is obviously one of the USPs of Hate Story 3 but the film goes beyond that. Somewhere, the plot has worked. Erotica is surely an initial step to draw the audience but to hold their attention, you need to tell a good story.

Did you expect the film to be this successful?
It’s hard to form an idea because the box office is very unpredictable. But I had a good feeling about the film from the beginning. All of us were very clear about how we wanted the film to look and what role we would play in it.

Do you think Hate Story 3 will change your image?
I don’t really care. I am not conscious of my image. I always do whatever keeps me happy. Eventually, I always leave it to the media and the audience. I choose to work from the heart. Being typecast in a certain role is a fight all actors face.

Your co-stars say that you were rather quiet and reserved on the sets. Is that true?
I save my energy so that I can put it in front of the camera. (Laughs)

Post 3 Idiots, you were unable to deliver a solid hit for a long time. What went wrong?
Actually, Ferrari Ki Sawari was declared a hit at the box office. It earned Rs 39-40 crore. My performance was also appreciated. War Chod Na Yaar, Gangs Of Ghosts and Super Nani had great content but somehow didn’t work at the box office. I don’t really count 3 Bachelors. Every actor has such phases in his or her career. I really miss doing comedy films like Golmaal.

Have you signed Ishq Uncensored opposite Mallika Sherawat?
No. It is at a very initial stage. I am doing 1920 London with Meera Chopra, which is the third installment in the 1920 franchise. The film is in post-production now and we are looking at a March-April release next year.
