Double for Future

Future Kids school swept the titles — in boys’ and girls’ events

The teams from Future Kids School absolutely dominated proceedings at the first SRN Mudiraj inter-school prize money basketball tournament played at the Johnson Grammar School in Nacharam, winning both the girls’ and boys’ crowns.

While the girls defeated St Peter’s Residential International School 20-10, the boys’ team, after a slow start, picked up their game to register a 46-28 win over St Joseph’s Public School (King Koti).

Shubhankar (18 points), Omar (12) and Akash (10) showcased their basketball skills in full measure as they rolled past St Joseph’s School for whom Ashutosh (10), Arun (8) and Anukesh (8) played well.

It was Shubhankar’s ability to grab the rebounds and score from the restricted area which was the highlight of the final, with Omar and Akash pulling off baskets at regular intervals. At one point, there was very little left for the St Joseph players to fight for, and they gave up all hope of a title late in the third quarter.

In the girls’ final, the Future Kids used their experience as Arya (6 points), Geetanjali (8) and Dharti (4) found easy baskets coming their way as their opponents were not able to put the skids on the Future Kids attack.

Earlier in the semifinals, Future Kids defeated hosts Johnson Grammar CBSE School in both sections — 32-14 in the boys’ semis and 32-23 in the girls’ last four clash.
