Rising pollution increases sale of air purifiers in Hyderabad

Air purifiers are home appliances which can be plugged in and kept in the corner of a room.

Hyderabad: Air quality being a serious concern due to rising pollution levels, air purifier sales have increased in the city. This is also as more and more people are suffering from asthma and other respiratory disorders. Checking indoor pollution is as important as checking outdoor pollution, experts say.

The setting in of winter further affects air quality, with the rise in the level of particulate matter of 2.5 micrometers. Outdoor pollution apart, indoor pollution comes in the form of agarbatti, incense sticks and smoke from cooking which affect asthma patients.

Explained pulmonologist Dr Ramana Prasad, “The tradition of burning incense sticks and dhoop increases the concentration of particulate matter. Along with this, smoke from tobacco, cooking, and dust from carpets also cause indoor pollution. Hence, while the winter is showing a smog effect outside, indoor pollution also needs to be tackled.”

In this manner, air purifiers are sorted out as they suck in the dust, smoke, carbon dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and other gases from the room. Vijay Kannan selling air purifiers explained, “Air purifiers are home appliances which can be plugged in and kept in the corner of a room. It has a floor stand and has a system that adjusts and maintains air quality in the room, senior consultant pulmonologist, explained, “We can’t take an air purifier for granted.

The problem is with the body of the individual who cannot take in small and heavy particles in the air. For that, the nebulizers and medicines are required.” Experts say improving the quality of air within the home may give temporary relief but it is not a permanent solution and will not change the pattern in which the body adapts to it. While air quality standards are found to exceed the levels, options like these come as a breather for many who want clean air.
