Policemen stage protest in Dakshina Kannada

They staged a protest in front of the station demanding reinstation of Inspector Pramod Kumar.

Mangaluru: In what is considered as first in the history of Dakshina Kannada district, Police personnel and officials of Mangaluru rural police station and activists of various organisations staged a protest in front of the station demanding reinstation of Inspector Pramod Kumar on Tuesday evening.

Telephones and walkie talkies of the Station reminised unattended after 7 pm, when the personnel staged protest by standing out of the station.

“Pramod had arrested Aboobaker Siddiqui, an accused in attempt to murder case. The accused was sent to judicial custody. This had annoyed few senior police officials and Pramod was sent on leave,” a protesting police officer told Deccan Chronicle.

Efforts by DCPs and ACPs to pacify protesters failed as they wanted Pramod back immediately at the station. Commissioner S Murugan who came to the station tried to pacify protestors. “We have neither sent Pramod on leave nor have transferred him. Please do not listen to rumours,” he told protestors. However the protestors did not relent.

“We want Pramod Kumar to come here now. We will not stop till he returns to work. If he was not sent on leave where is he now,” the protestors questioned.

The protests stopped only after Pramod arrived at the station around 9.30 pm. “I have been asked to come back. Please stop the protest,” he requested after which the protests came to an end.
