Polavaram works will be completed by 2018: CM Chandrababu Naidu

Rehabilitation packages to be in best possible ways.

Kakinada/Polavaram: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has said the works on Polavaram Headworks project would be completed by 2018 and those of the Pattiseema lift irrigation project by November 29, 2016. The CM inspected the works on Tuesday and also offered Harathi to River Godavari at Itukulakota village.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Naidu said that due to the diversion of Godavari waters to Krishna river through the Pattiseema project, crops worth Rs 2,400 crore in Krishna delta have been protected.

Other rivers like Krishna-Penna and Vamsadhara-Nagavali would be linked to each other on the lines of Krishna-Godavari. With the linking of the rivers, the levels of underground waters would be increased.

He said the Opposition parties were trying to create obstructions for the Pattiseema project. Works on the first ph-ase of the project would be completed within five months with the help of farmers in West Goda-vari district. Five pumps have been set up under the project and the remaining 19 pumps would be arranged soon.

He said 8,500 cusecs of water would be taken to Krishna delta from Godavari river in the coming three months. As many as 50,000 cubic metres of concrete works and 40km of pipe-line works have been completed till now.

Referring to the Polavaram project works, Mr Naidu said the state government has spent Rs 2,300 crore over and above the allocation by the central government.

Relief and rehabilitation packages would be implemented in the best possible ways. To expedite and solve the RR package problems, an IAS off-icer would be deployed in each mandal under the Polavaram project area.

Some 1.80 crore cubic metres of soil has been excavated for the project out of 9 crore cubic metres; and another 2 crore cubic metres of soil would be excavated soon. West Godavari would be developed as the “Number One” district in the state, he said.
